Physical chemistry lab
Soft Matter at Interfaces

The physical chemistry lab is used for hydro- and microgel synthesis and surface and interface preparation and characterisation. In addition, tensiometric measurements and surface preparations/modifications can be performed under clean room conditions.

  • Emulsion polymerization (polymer microgels)
  • Atom transfer radical polymerization (polymer brushes)

Coating of solid substrates:

  • Spin coater (particle and polymer deposition)
  • Dip robot (polyelectrolyte multilayers)
  • Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM-D)
  • Contact angle
  • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
  • Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP)

Fluid interfaces:

  • Tensiometer
  • Pendant drop
  • Langmuir trough

Bulk phase:

  • UV-Vis spectroscopy
  • Viscometer
  • Zeta-sizer
  • Transmission electron microscopy (TEM)
  • Thin films and surfaces, ellipsometry:
