Soft Matter at Interfaces

Soft Matter at Interfaces (SMI)

Our research group works in the area of phases and interfaces. We examine the interactions inside thin liquid films (foam films and wetting films between solid interfaces) and at the air/water interface (pure water, and multi-component solutions).

Another main focus is responsive soft matter such as polyelectrolyte multilayers, polymer brushes and hydrogels. This includes preparation and characterisation of 2D-nanostructured films under varying environmental conditions, to make use of their sensitive characteristics for applications like “smart” switches and sensors.

We are involved in the TU Darmstadt Profile Areas Thermo-Fluids & Interfaces and PMP.
